February 20, 2012 Google Voice opens free calling to iNum
Pleased to share the excellent news that Google Voice users can now call iNums (+883 5100) as well as the UN (+888) number for free. That’s right FREE.
Currently voice calls are enabled via the Google Voice smart-phone clients.
This is a great milestone for the iNum Initiative’s efforts to encourage service providers and carriers to a) support calling to iNum and b) price it properly , i.e. at zero to low cost.
I tested it on the Verizon mobile network in the USA, just installed the Google Voice client on my iPhone and it worked flawlessly. Voice quality was excellent. Please try it from other networks and countries and please share your feedback and experiences via the blog comments and tweets (@inum).
Voxbone’s iNum Initiative provides carriers and service providers with diverse options for free or close to free termination to the +883 5100 and +888 number ranges. So we hope every carrier or service provider on Earth will follow Google Voice in providing affordable calling to the iNum and UN numbers.
Thanks Google Voice!

Just tried it from Virgin Mobile (on Sprint Network) and it did not work. The two methods I tried were:
1. dialing from cell phone with the Google voice App
2. dialed from phone to google voice, chose option #2 to dial a number and the response is “invalid number”.
Anyone else have success??

Have had success now!
The issue is that I didn’t use 011 b4 the number.
It is an international calling code, not an area code, so don’t forget the 011!

Test on my Virgin Mobile also by dialing 01188315000xxxxxxx and was able to reach by iNum Number. This however, uses your allotted Voice Minutes!

Jeff:
Only uses allotted voice minutes? No international extra charges?
That’s moderately good news.
